CDmax 06/12/1998
Version 1.5 Build 1.5.3.0
CDmax is a 32-bit Windows Audio CD player program.
It was developed and tested primarily on Windows 95.
I now use NT4 sp3 at work and it works fine there
as well. I have been told by a few folks that the
volume controls do not work under NT, but it works
for me and a number of others I have checked with
and heard from. This is still a mystery.
Version 1.5.3 changes
=====================
1) improved playlist, added ability to store the
same track more than once in the playlist.
Added shuffle to playlist. Moved playlist
to Contents editor.
2) removed random mode. I had a number of complaints
about the random mode, so I removed it in favor
of the shuffle. I may re-add an improved version
of random play at a later time.
3) Changing the playlist no longer interrupts the
playing track. (Unless you remove it from the list)
4) An import/export feature has been added. This will
be added onto and improved in the future, with other
formats becoming available as I can work them in.
This version adds Audiofile Internet Companion(tm)
format. More on this later.
5) Track selection from with Explorer. If you have
CDmax set as your default player, you can double-click
a track from an Audio CD in Explorer to change to that
track.
6) various user interface adjustments
Installation
============
CDmax is distributed as a ZIP file containing two files:
1) ReadMe.txt (this file)
2) CDmax.exe (you can check version info in the about box
or by right-clicking CDmax.exe, selecting
Properties and viewing the Version tab)
Copy CDmax.exe to the directory of your choice and run it.
(If you are updating from any previous version, copy CDmax.exe
over the other one)
Features
========
Check the website listed below for features and future
development items. Please use the website as a source of
information on CDmax. It is a more dynamic environment
than this type of document.
One worth mentioning here is the import of Audiofile
Internet Companion(tm) catalog files. Audiofile Internet
Companion is a program that I wrote for Spinfree, Inc.
which allows you to download information from the CDDB.
The reason this might be of interest is that it allows
you to build a catalog of your CD collection offline
and then go online to retrieve the information.
This file can then be imported into your CDmax library.
This can be a life-saver for those with large collections
and expensive connection charges.
Check the website below for more details and links to
AIC.
Setup of CDDB Options
=====================
Assuming you have your Internet connection established, access
the CDmax Options panel and fill in the information on the CDDB
tabs.
Submissions
-----------
If you have a CD that is not in the CDDB, you can submit it for
inclusion, using CDmax. You will need to supply your Email
address and the name of your SMTP mail server. Check with your
ISP if you are not sure of the SMTP name. This data is needed
in order to identify you to the CDDB and to allow for return
email if you should have a submission reject from the CDDB.
(more about this later)
Once you have entered the required data, submit the entry from
the main panel. You can submit changes to existing entries in
this way, as well. An email message will be formatted and sent
to the CDDB Admininstrators for inclusion in the database.
Important Note:
---------------
If you submit an entry and for some reason it rejects, you will
receive an email message in return from the CDDB. Please forward
this message to the author of CDmax at the email address listed
below. This will assist in correcting the software if there are
problems.
Retrievals
----------
There are a number of sites all over the world where the CDDB is
stored. To begin using the retrieve process you will first need
to retrieve a list of these sites.
First, you must specify your email address mentioned above.
This is used to identify you to CDDB on retrievals as well as
submissions.
A number of retrieval options exist. Two different access
protocols can be used, CDDBP and HTTP. And you can access
through a proxy server now also. Several different combinations
are possible and one or more may work for you depending on
your internet access situation. Check the website listed
below for detailed explanations on each of the options.
Once you have selected an access option, press the button named
'Sites' under the Refresh group. This will populate the
Site to Query list. When complete, select a site.
Additionally, there is a button to refresh the valid list of
CDDB categories.
You may need to adjust the number of seconds in 'Timeout'
depending on your response time.
